Donovan's Store is the oldest wooden building in Westland, standing on The Strand from Okarito's brief gold-rush boom. In the 1860s this was a busy port settlement; now the old store looks almost improbably solid in a village that has otherwise shrunk back into quiet.
The building is simple, but that is the point. It anchors Okarito's history to an actual street corner and reminds you that this remote coast was once crowded with miners, traders, and ships trying to work a difficult shoreline.
