Angaur Lighthouse

The Japanese-built lighthouse on the south-western side of Angaur dates from the 1930s, when the island was a centre of the Japanese phosphate industry. It is a squat concrete tower, no longer in active use, sitting above the cliffs with views down the coast.

The walk through low forest from the road to the lighthouse takes a few minutes. The structure itself is unremarkable; what makes the spot worth visiting is the view of the open Pacific and, on a clear day, the silhouettes of the other Palauan islands far to the north.
