Diving Angaur

The reefs around Angaur are some of the most exposed and current-swept in Palau, with reliable encounters with large pelagic fish — sharks, schooling barracuda, sometimes a passing manta or marlin. The dive sites are not numerous but they are powerful, and they reward divers who can handle a drift and a strong negative entry.

Most diving is done as a day trip from Koror by liveaboard or a fast charter; only a couple of operators run regular Angaur trips, and weather often cancels them. If you make it down here in good conditions, this is some of the best big-fish diving in Micronesia.

A story
The current at Angaur runs so fast that the Palau dive boats only attempt to reach it on a few days each month, when the tide and weather line up. Most Palauan divers have heard about Angaur for years and still have not done a dive there.
