Auki has a handful of small restaurants and guesthouses that serve meals. The food is simple but honest — rice, taro, sweet potato, and fresh fish are the staples, supplemented by whatever has come into the market that morning. Reef fish, cooked in coconut milk or grilled over charcoal, is the best thing on offer. Do not arrive expecting menus or set meal times; eating in Auki works best if you let the guesthouse know in advance that you want to eat.
Outside the capital, food options are minimal. In villages, hospitality may include a shared meal, but this should be treated as a gift rather than a service — contributing rice or tinned fish from the trade store is a standard and appreciated way to reciprocate.
