The Catholic church in Lolua is a low, white-walled building near the wharf, one of the most visible structures in the village. Catholics are a small minority in Tuvalu (the country is overwhelmingly Ekalesia Kelisiano Tuvalu, the local Protestant church), but Nanumea has a longstanding Catholic community and the church is well kept and well attended.
Services are open to respectful visitors. Dress conservatively, sit at the back, and stay for the singing — Polynesian church choirs are reliably extraordinary, and the harmonies on Nanumea are particularly worth the trip.
