The agora was the political and commercial heart of Apollonia: a long rectangular plaza lined with stoas, temples, and public buildings. Only the foundations and lower courses survive, but the layout is legible on the ground and gives a clear sense of how the lower city worked.
Walking it slowly is worth more than rushing between the better-preserved set pieces. The agora is where Cicero, who praised Apollonia as a "great and important city," would have spent his time when he passed through on his way to and from Macedonia.
