Kobayr Monastery

Kobayr Monastery clings to the green cliffs above the Debed Canyon, reached by a short but slippery walk up from the hamlet of Kober. The setting is half the reason to come: broken stone walls, frescoed church remains, and views across the canyon slopes.

The monastery dates to the medieval period and preserves fragments of frescoes and carved stonework that are especially atmospheric in their semi-ruined state. Restoration work has changed parts of the site, but it remains one of the most rewarding short detours in the Odzun and Alaverdi area.
