Five kilometres south of Talin, the village of Dashtadem holds one of the better-preserved medieval fortifications on the Aragatsotn plain. The core is a 10th-century Arab-period building (with a Kufic inscription giving the patron's name); the outer walls were added in the early 19th century by a Persian khan, making this a layered structure that reads like a textbook of medieval fortification.
The site is unfenced and free; a caretaker is sometimes present and will let you climb to the upper bastion for a view across the plain to Mount Aragats. There's also a 7th-century church inside the village.
