Stubnerkogel

The Stubnerkogel (2246 m) is Bad Gastein's main ski and hiking mountain, accessed by a gondola from the edge of town. In summer it offers some of the best panoramic views in the Gasteinertal, with the Hohe Tauern range spread out to the east and the valley towns visible far below.

The peak has become known for its high-altitude suspension bridge — a 100-metre walkway strung between two rocky points above a steep drop. There is also a via ferrata route for the more adventurous. In winter, the Stubnerkogel forms part of the Ski Amade network; the runs down to the valley are long and varied, suitable for intermediate to advanced skiers.

A story
The suspension bridge strung between two peaks at the top of the Stubnerkogel is 100 metres long and hangs 120 metres above the rocky ridge below. It was built not as a practical crossing but as an attraction in its own right. On clear days you can see across to the Hohe Tauern and the Grossglockner, Austria's highest peak, more than 50 km to the east.
