The Kornmesser is a traditional Austrian Gasthof tucked into the Oberstadt, serving solid regional food in the old town setting. The menu runs to Vorarlberger classics — Käsespätzle, Tafelspitz, schnitzel — and the wine list includes decent Austrian bottles. The dining room has the low-ceilinged warmth of a proper old inn, which is exactly what it is.
It is not the cheapest option in Bregenz, but for a sit-down meal in the historic quarter it offers good value and a sense of place that the lakeside tourist restaurants sometimes lack. Popular with locals for Sunday lunch, which is generally a good sign.
