Vorarlberg Museum

The Vorarlberg Museum is the state art and cultural history museum of Austria's Vorarlberg region, sitting a few steps from the Kunsthaus on the lakeside. The building, redesigned and reopened in 2013, has an unconventional facade of cast concrete elements that references the region's craft tradition. Inside, the collection spans archaeology, folk art, and applied design from prehistory to the present.

The museum is particularly strong on the history of Vorarlberg and the broader Lake Constance region, including the Roman period (Bregenz was the Roman town of Brigantium), medieval settlement, and the development of the region's distinctive textile industry. There are also rotating art exhibitions and a lively programme of events. The rooftop terrace offers good views over the lake. An honest, well-presented regional collection that gives context to the town.
