Kitzbüheler Horn

The 1,996m mountain northeast of town with cable car access and panoramic Alpine views

The Kitzbüheler Horn rises to 1,996 metres on the northeast side of the valley, directly opposite the Hahnenkamm. It is the quieter of the two mountains — less famous than the Hahnenkamm, less steep in its ski runs, and more oriented towards families and beginners in winter. The Hornbahn cable car from the edge of town reaches the summit in about twenty minutes.

In summer the Horn is the better hiking mountain: the upper slopes carry Alpine flowers in June and July, and the views from the summit ridge extend south over the Hohe Tauern range and north towards the Bavarian pre-Alps. The cable car operates in summer for hikers as well as in winter for skiers. There is a mountain restaurant at the top.
