The Schwarzsee — Black Lake — is a shallow moor lake about two kilometres west of Kitzbühel, reachable on foot or by bike along the valley path from the town centre. At an elevation of just 762 metres, it is one of the warmest natural swimming lakes in Tyrol, reaching 24°C in a good summer, and it is the main summer attraction for people who come to Kitzbühel outside the ski season.
The lake has a pebbly beach, a small café, and a boat rental. It sits in a flat valley bottom beneath forested slopes, with the ski runs of the Hahnenkamm visible above. The setting is more rural and quiet than the town itself. There is a small train stop on the Salzburg–Tyrol railway (Kitzbühel Schwarzsee) that makes the connection from the town station easy.
