Old City Caravanserais

Several of the medieval caravanserais inside Icherisheher are still standing, with their original courtyards and the lines of small rooms once used by merchants to store goods and sleep. The Bukhara caravanserai (14th century) and the Multani caravanserai (15th century) — named after the cities from which their patrons came — have been restored and turned into restaurants and cafes.

Eating in one of them is a tourist cliché but, like a number of tourist clichés, worth doing once. The Multani in particular has a beautiful arched courtyard that lights up well in the evening. Even if you don't eat, take a few minutes to walk through the courtyards and look at the brickwork.
