Mount Bozdağ

Mountain south of town with views over the Mingechevir Reservoir

Mount Bozdağ (meaning "grey mountain" in Azerbaijani) rises about ten kilometres south of Mingechevir in the lesser Caucasus foothills. It's the fourth most prominent peak near the city, and its relatively accessible summit offers wide views across the reservoir and the flat agricultural plain of the Kura-Araz lowlands.

The mountain is reachable by road and on foot. The hike from the base is not technically demanding — the terrain is open and the paths are clear. From the top on a clear day you can see the reservoir glinting in the distance and the outline of the Greater Caucasus range to the north. A good half-day excursion from town.
