The Holy Mother of God Cathedral (Surb Astvatsamor Hovanu) was the main Armenian Apostolic church in Khankendi, a stone building constructed in the early years of the Republic of Artsakh. It served as the seat of the Diocese of Artsakh and was the largest Armenian church in the region, capable of holding several hundred worshippers.
Following the Azerbaijani offensive of September 2023 and the complete departure of the Armenian population, the cathedral's current status is uncertain. Whether it continues as a place of worship, is repurposed, or remains closed is unclear to outside observers. The building itself is architecturally notable — a contemporary take on classical Armenian church design, with a prominent bell tower and exterior stonework.
