Yardymly Meteorite

The Yardymly meteorite is more story than conventional sight, but it is a good example of the odd details that make remote places memorable. In 1959 a meteorite fall near the town brought scientific attention to a district otherwise known mainly to locals and south-Azerbaijan travellers.

There is no major visitor centre to plan around. Treat it as a curiosity to know before you arrive, and as a reminder that even a small mountain town can have a place in a much larger map.

A story
A meteorite fall near Yardimli in 1959 gave the district a scientific footnote far stranger than its quiet mountain roads suggest. Fragments from the fall were studied as the Yardymly meteorite.
