Yardimli

Small Talysh Mountain town in southern Azerbaijan, reached by a winding road from Masally.

Yardimli is a small town in the Talysh Mountains of southern Azerbaijan, inland from Masally and Lenkoran. It is not a conventional sightseeing stop. The reason to come is the road, the green mountain scenery, and the sense of being in a quieter, higher corner of the country.

The route up from Masally climbs out of the humid lowlands into forested ridges and scattered villages. Travellers with their own car can make Yardimli part of a southern Azerbaijan loop; without one, it is more of a local bus or shared-taxi adventure, and schedules should be treated flexibly.

The town's modest centre is useful for supplies and orientation, while the surrounding district holds the more interesting details: Allar Cave, village walks, and the story of the Yardymly meteorite. Come for landscape rather than monuments, and you will understand it better.

Getting There

Most travellers approach Yardimli from Masally, following the road west into the Talysh Mountains. The distance is not great, but the road is winding and slower than the map suggests.

Shared taxis and local buses may run from Masally, though departures can be irregular. A private car gives you far more freedom to stop at viewpoints and villages along the way.
