Brest is a major transit hub between Eastern Europe and Belarus. Most visitors arrive by train. Direct trains run from Warsaw (about 3.5 hours), Minsk (3.5 hours), and Moscow (14 hours). The main railway station is in the centre of the city. Note that trains crossing from Poland into Belarus change their wheel bogies at the border, as the track gauges differ — this process takes an hour or more and happens while passengers remain on the train.
By road, the M1 motorway connects Brest with Minsk via a well-maintained highway. Coach services from Warsaw, Minsk, and other regional cities also operate through the main bus station adjacent to the railway station.
All visitors to Belarus require a visa unless they are arriving at Minsk National Airport, where visa-free entry has been available under certain conditions. The border crossing with Poland is one of the busiest in Eastern Europe, and delays of several hours are possible during peak periods. Check current visa requirements before travel.
