Church of St Simon and Helena

The Red Church, a striking neo-Romanesque memorial built by a grieving family

Address Sovetskaya 15, Minsk

Known as the Red Church, built 1908–1910 by a noble family in memory of their two children who died young. Under the Soviets it became a cinema, then a film studio. The red brick neo-Romanesque facade is striking against the grey Soviet surroundings and was a rallying point for the opposition movement in the 1980s.
