Komarovsky Market

The largest and most atmospheric food market in Minsk, under a spectacular Soviet-era dome

Komarovsky Market is Minsk's most important traditional food market, housed under a large circular dome that is one of the more striking pieces of Soviet commercial architecture in the city. The market sells fresh produce, meat, fish, dairy, and preserved foods, much of it brought in from Belarusian farms. The quality is high and the selection is far better than any supermarket.

Beyond the practical shopping, Komarovsky is worth visiting as a living piece of Minsk daily life. The vendors are mostly women from the surrounding countryside who bring their produce by bus or train. You'll find excellent smoked meats, wild mushrooms, dried berries, honey in every variety, and an overwhelming quantity of pickled vegetables. The prices are very reasonable by European standards.

Metro to Kastrychnitskaya, then a ten-minute walk north, or directly to Molodezhnaya station. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 8am-7pm. Closed Monday.
