Saint Mary Magdalene Church is a compact Russian Revival landmark on the northern side of central Minsk, set beside one of the city's older cemeteries. Its red brick, green roof, and modest scale make it a useful counterpoint to Minsk's grand Soviet avenues and reconstructed baroque churches.
The church works best as a short architectural stop while exploring beyond the immediate Independence Avenue corridor. The surrounding cemetery and quieter streets give it a more local atmosphere than the heavily visited churches around the Upper Town.
