The Cold Synagogue no longer functions as a synagogue, and travellers should approach the site as a place of memory rather than a conventional attraction. Its significance lies in what is missing: the Jewish Mogilev that was largely destroyed during the German occupation.
Pair it with a walk through the older centre and with some reading on the city's pre-war demographics. Without that context, the site can feel slight; with it, it becomes one of the more sobering stops in Mogilev.
