Terril des Piges is one of the best ways to understand Charleroi's industrial landscape. The conical black hill rises beside the city centre, a leftover of the coal mines that shaped the region, now reclaimed as a rough green lookout rather than erased.
The climb is short but sharp, and the reward is a wide view over factories, ring roads, church towers, and the patched-together city below. It is not pretty in the postcard sense, which is exactly why it belongs here: Charleroi makes most sense from a place that shows both its scars and its stubborn reinvention.
