Charleroi's Musée des Beaux-Arts is a useful counterweight to the city's industrial grit. Reopened in 2022 as MBArts, it concentrates on Belgian art from the 19th century to the present, with particular attention to artists from Charleroi, Wallonia, and Brussels. That local focus makes it more than a generic provincial collection.
The museum is compact enough for an hour or two, with permanent rooms covering movements such as realism, surrealism, abstraction, and contemporary art, plus changing exhibitions and talks. It pairs naturally with nearby BPS22: one gives you the city's fine-art memory, the other its harder contemporary edge.
