Sint-Donatus Park

Small urban park built on the remains of a demolished medieval church

Sint-Donatus Park is a small green space in the city centre, a quiet retreat from the busy streets nearby. It occupies the site of the medieval Sint-Donatuskerk, which was demolished in the 18th century — the outlines of the former church are marked in the grass, giving the park an unusual, slightly haunted quality. A few old trees shade the benches, and it's a popular lunch spot for university staff and students from the nearby faculties.

The park sits between the Naamsestraat and the older university buildings, and it makes a pleasant pause point if you're walking south toward the Groot Begijnhof. It's not a destination in itself, but it is a genuine neighbourhood green space rather than a tourist attraction, and the contrast of the traced church foundations with the ordinary park furniture is quietly interesting.
