Spuihuis

Small riverside sluice house in Lier, a compact reminder of the town’s water-control history.

The Spuihuis is a small but handsome piece of Lier's waterside heritage, built where the town controlled the flow of water through its channels. It is easy to miss if you are focused only on the Grote Markt or the Zimmer Tower, but it belongs to the same story of a town shaped by rivers, mills, and defensive waterworks.

Stop here on a walk along the Nete rather than treating it as a standalone destination. The building's charm is in its scale: brick, water, and old engineering folded into the everyday fabric of a Flemish town.
