The lake of Louvain-la-Neuve was created as a storm basin and fishing pond, but it has become the town's easiest breathing space. A path loops around the water, with birds, reeds, and views back toward the university buildings.
Northwest of the centre, the Bois de Lauzelle takes the green edge further. The woodland has marked routes and a more natural feel than the planned streets nearby, which makes it a good finish after the museums. You do not come to Louvain-la-Neuve for wilderness, but the lake and woods help explain why the town works better on foot than it might sound on paper.
