SV Mercator

The SV Mercator is a three-masted schooner built in 1932 and now moored permanently in the yacht harbour as a museum ship. It served as a Belgian maritime training vessel for decades, circumnavigating the globe multiple times and carrying cadets from the Belgian merchant navy. The ship is named after the 16th-century cartographer Gerardus Mercator, who was born in what is now Belgium.

You can tour the interior during opening hours, which varies seasonally. The ship is well-maintained and gives a good sense of life aboard a large sailing vessel. The harbour setting, surrounded by modern leisure boats, emphasises how different maritime life once was.
