MuZee

Address Romestraat 11

MuZee is Ostend's main art museum, housed in a converted department store on the seafront. The collection covers Belgian modern art from the late 19th century onwards, with particular strength in the Ostend School — Ensor, Spilliaert, and their contemporaries who worked in and around the city. The Ensor rooms are the most visited, but the survey of 20th-century Belgian painting is broader and more interesting than the museum's reputation suggests.

The building's seafront position means the top floors look directly out over the beach and the North Sea — an appropriate backdrop for a collection so deeply rooted in this coastline. Open Tuesday to Sunday. The MuZee–Ensor House combined ticket gives you both sites at a discount.
