A 16th-century castle with moat, set within the urban fabric of Sint-Niklaas. The original structure dates to the 1500s and the castle has been modified several times since, but retains its original form of a fortified manor house surrounded by a water-filled moat. It was used for various administrative purposes over the centuries and is now partly used by the city.
The exterior and grounds are freely accessible and the castle makes a photogenic contrast to the surrounding modern city. The moat and surrounding trees create a pocket of calm close to the busy Grote Markt. Interior access is limited and typically requires prior arrangement.
