Liplje Monastery

Secluded Serbian Orthodox monastery in a wooded valley west of Teslic.

Liplje Monastery is the best cultural excursion from Teslic. It stands in a narrow valley by the Bistrica stream, west of town, with forested slopes around it and Borja mountain above.

The monastery is not large, but the setting gives it force. Combine it with a drive over Borja rather than treating it as a quick photo stop; the road and landscape are half the reason to come.

A story
The monastery's early history is partly uncertain because one chronicle that may have mentioned it was destroyed when the National Library in Belgrade burned during the Second World War. The certain written record begins later, but the place still carries the feel of an older monastic landscape.
