Vitosha Boulevard

Sofia's main pedestrian street and shopping promenade, running 1.2 kilometres from the Court House at one end to the Palace of Culture at the other. The view south is straight up Vitosha mountain — on a clear winter morning, the snowy peak frames the street perfectly.

Vitosha Boulevard is where Sofia comes to walk in the evening, eat ice-cream, and watch each other. The shops are international chains mixed with Bulgarian designers; the cafés spill out onto the street; the architecture is a mix of 1900s apartment blocks and post-Communist commercial. The Sveta Nedelya cathedral anchors the northern end, the Palace of Culture the south.
