Varna Zoo

Varna's small zoo occupies a section of the Sea Garden and is primarily oriented toward families with children. The collection is modest by the standards of major European zoos — you'll find deer, monkeys, reptiles, birds of prey, and a handful of larger mammals — but the setting in the park makes for a pleasant few hours if you're travelling with young children who need a change of pace from museums and beaches.

The zoo has been here in various forms since the early 20th century and has been gradually upgraded in recent years. Enclosures vary in quality; some are dated. It's a neighbourhood zoo in the best sense: small, affordable, and embedded in a park where children can run around before and after the animal viewing. In summer the shaded paths inside are a relief from the heat.
