Konaka Museum

The historical museum of Vidin, housed in the Konak — the former Ottoman administrative building. The collections cover the long history of the town from Roman Bononia through medieval Bdin and on into the modern period. Highlights include Thracian gold, medieval ceramics, and a strong section on the late Ottoman pasha Osman Pazvantoğlu, who effectively ruled this corner of the Balkans as an autonomous warlord between 1794 and 1807.

The building itself is worth attention — a two-storey Ottoman official residence with deep wooden eaves and an interior courtyard, restored in the late 20th century. Allow about an hour. The museum sits on the main avenue between the riverfront and the central square.
