Getting There

Alderney is reached by air or sea. Aurigny Air Services runs regular flights from Southampton (about 40 minutes) and Guernsey (15 minutes), and less frequent services from other UK airports including Exeter and Manchester in summer. The airport is small and the planes are small too — propeller aircraft, typically 16–18 seat Dornier turboprops. Booking in advance is essential in summer.

By sea, Manche Iles Express runs a ferry service from Guernsey and from the Normandy coast (Barneville-Carteret and Dielette) in summer. There is no direct ferry from the UK mainland to Alderney; travellers from England typically fly or take the Guernsey ferry and connect. The crossing from Guernsey takes about 75 minutes in fair weather; the sea between Guernsey and Alderney can be choppy.

Once on the island, everything is easily walkable from St Anne, and most of Alderney's sights are reachable on foot. Taxis and a limited bus service are available if needed.
