Pelješac Bridge

The Pelješac Bridge crosses the Bay of Mali Ston from the Komarna shore to the Pelješac peninsula, a graceful pair of pylons supporting a fan of white cables that has rapidly become the new icon of the southern Croatian coast. Komarna sits directly below the mainland abutment.

The best views are from the water — a short kayak or boat trip from Komarna passes underneath — or from the small park at the foot of the pylon on the village side. At night the bridge is lit blue and gold, visible from miles up and down the coast. A handful of viewpoints have appeared along the local roads above the village; the most photographed is the one signposted "Vidikovac" on the road up to Brijesta.

A story
Opened in July 2022, the 2,440-metre cable-stayed bridge finally gave Croatia an uninterrupted road link to Dubrovnik. Until then, every car heading south had to cross the Bosnian corridor at Neum, with two border posts each way. The project was funded mostly by the European Union and built by a Chinese consortium — a politically charged combination that drew years of comment.
