The early Christian basilica of St. Thecla (Sveta Tékla) is Podstrana's main historical site — a 5th-century church built on an even earlier pagan foundation, one of the oldest Christian structures in Dalmatia. The building has been modified repeatedly over the centuries, and what stands today incorporates the original late antique walls into a structure that was renovated in the Romanesque period.
The church is small and the interior is modest, but the setting — in the old village above the coastal road, with views down to the sea — is pleasant, and the historical layers are genuinely interesting for anyone interested in the deep history of Dalmatia. The church remains in active use as the parish church of Podstrana.
