Zagreb Airport

Zagreb Airport (Aerodrom Franjo Tuđman) is the main international airport serving the Croatian capital, located about 3 km northeast of Velika Gorica and 15 km south of Zagreb city centre. The airport handles direct flights to most major European cities and has become an increasingly busy hub as Croatian tourism has grown.

For travellers with time before departure, Velika Gorica town centre is ten minutes by taxi from the terminal. There is also a direct bus service to central Zagreb. The airport itself is functional and not particularly large — check-in and security can usually be completed quickly outside peak hours.

A story
Zagreb Airport is officially named Franjo Tuđman Airport after Croatia's first president. The current terminal, opened in 2017, replaced a Soviet-era building that had served the airport since the 1960s. During the Yugoslav period, Zagreb Airport was one of the main hubs for JAT Yugoslav Airlines and an important transit point for Gastarbeiter (guest workers) travelling between Yugoslavia and West Germany — a fact still visible in the older facilities.
