Nakovanj Plateau

The Nakovanj plateau sits in the hills directly above Viganj and is the closest day-hike from the village. A narrow road climbs to the abandoned hamlet of Nakovanj (roughly 4 km, an hour on foot from the coast); from there several paths fan out across the karst uplands toward archaeological sites, isolated chapels, and viewpoints over the channel.

The most striking destination is the Nakovanj-2 cave, used continuously from the Bronze Age into the Roman period and the source of the small bronze hoard now in the Dubrovnik Archaeological Museum. Bring sturdy shoes, plenty of water, and a torch if you want to look into the cave; the path is unmarked beyond the village and a GPS or a guide is helpful.
