Windsurfing and Kitesurfing

The Viganj beach is where Croatia learned to windsurf. Six or seven schools spread along the bay rent boards, rigs, kites, and wetsuits for everyone from first-time beginners to advanced freestyle riders; the larger operations (ANTE, Liberan, Waterdonkey) run multi-day courses and longer-term board storage. Equipment is recent and well maintained.

Wind builds through the morning and tops out between 2pm and 6pm in July and August. Mornings and evenings tend to be calm — perfect for SUP or beginner lessons. Most schools cluster in the campground area at the western end of the beach. Bring or rent water shoes; the beach is fine pebble with occasional rocky patches.

A story
The Pelješac channel between the peninsula and Korčula island acts as a wind tunnel for the prevailing northwesterly summer maestral, accelerating it to consistent force 4-6 conditions. The shallow water close to shore and the long fetch make it one of the few European spots where reliable wind, flat water near the beach, and choppier conditions further out coexist within a fifteen-minute reach.
