Vrbnik Old Town

Vrbnik's old town sits on a limestone bluff above the sea, its stone houses packed so tightly that some streets narrow to less than a metre. The whole settlement is medieval in origin and has survived largely intact — not because it was preserved deliberately, but because nothing much happened here to require its demolition.

Walking the alleys and stairways of the old town takes about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace. The views from the cliff edge are excellent, looking east across the Vinodol Channel toward the Croatian mainland. The atmosphere is best in the morning before any day-trip crowds arrive, and again in the evening when the light turns golden on the stone.
