Žminj Castle Ruins

Remains of the medieval Pazinski Knežija stronghold in the village centre

A round tower and stretches of curtain wall are all that survives of Žminj's medieval castle, built when this was the southern outpost of the County of Pazin under the Habsburgs. The walls form part of the historic core and you can walk around the outside in 10 minutes. The castle is fully integrated into the village — houses lean against the old stones — and best appreciated as part of a slow loop around the centre rather than as a destination in itself.
