St Stephen's Cathedral stands apart from the main square on Dómský pahorek, the cathedral hill. The present Baroque church replaced older buildings on a site that had been important since the early medieval town, and it remains the seat of the Litoměřice Catholic diocese.
Even when the interior is closed outside services, the walk is worthwhile. The cathedral precinct is quieter than the square, and the position above the Elbe gives Litoměřice a clear second landmark.
