Riegrovy Sady is the large park on the eastern slope of Vinohrady, a favourite spot for locals who come to picnic, walk their dogs, or nurse a cold Pilsner on the terrace of the beer garden at the top. The view west from the garden benches takes in the castle, the cathedral, and the entire Prague skyline — arguably the best single view of the city available for the cost of a beer.
The park is less manicured than the formal gardens around the castle, which is part of its appeal. There are grass slopes, old trees, a playground, and a small sports area. Summer evenings bring an outdoor cinema. Come on a weekday afternoon to see the neighbourhood in its natural state, with children and dog-walkers entirely outnumbering tourists.
