The sgraffito houses are the reason Slavonice belongs on the map. Around Peace Square, Upper Square, and the adjoining streets, more than 50 historic houses preserve Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque fabric, with the Renaissance facades doing most of the showing off.
Look for houses 517 and 518 on HornĂ Square, where biblical scenes, portraits, and ornamental patterns turn private wealth into street theatre. Several houses also preserve diamond vaults and painted rooms, giving the town more substance than a simple pretty-square stop.
