Roštejn Castle stands in the forest about seven kilometres southwest of Třešť. It began as a medieval castle and was later reshaped into a Renaissance hunting lodge, which explains the mix of defensive bones and country-house character.
The best reason to go is the setting. Take a guided look inside if the castle is open, but do not skip the septagonal tower, where the view spreads over the wooded Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.
