Hammeren is the granite promontory that forms the northernmost point of Bornholm, a hammer-head shape of rock and heather jutting into the Baltic Sea. It is a protected nature area, and the walking here is excellent — short distances between varied scenery, with coastal paths above cliffs, heather moorland, and the Hammersø lake all within easy reach.
The landscape is genuine wilderness by Danish standards: granite outcrops, gnarled birch trees, and a coastline scoured by Baltic weather. A marked trail loops around the headland from Sandvig, passing the lighthouse at Hammer Odde (the northernmost point) and returning along the inland path past the lake. The full loop takes about two hours at a comfortable pace.
