Aalholm Castle near Nysted in eastern Lolland is cited as Denmark's oldest continuously inhabited castle, with origins in the 12th century and the current building dating largely from the 14th. The estate is privately owned and opens its grounds to visitors. Also on the estate is the Aalholm Automobile Museum — one of Europe's largest private vintage car collections, with several hundred vehicles spanning over a century of automotive history.
