Grønjægers Høj — "the green hunter's mound" — is one of the longest passage graves in Denmark, an oblong Neolithic monument 102 metres long and a few metres high, lined with 134 large kerb stones. It was built around 3500 BC by the Funnel Beaker culture and is one of the most impressive prehistoric tombs in Scandinavia.
The site sits in open farmland just up the road from Fanefjord Church, easy to combine with a visit there. The mound is freely accessible at any time, and the view from the top out over the fjord helps explain why this spot was sacred to people 5,000 years ago.
